Funding

FreedomCore is independently funded. No venture capital. No ad revenue. No data monetization.

What Funding Covers

  • Build/test hardware and network lab gear
  • Hosting and edge infrastructure (Cloudflare, lighthouse servers)
  • Apple Developer Program and app store operational costs
  • Domain registration and certificates
  • Development time

How to Help

We’re setting up funding channels. Check back here for direct links as they go live:

  • GitHub Sponsors
  • Ko-fi
  • Open Collective

The Business Model

FreedomCore’s customers are groups, not individuals. Revenue will come from services that help groups run their infrastructure:

  • Directory listings — professionals discoverable by location and specialty
  • Backup services — encrypted backup of group certificate authorities
  • Federation — connecting groups that need to collaborate across boundaries
  • Industry recipe packs — curated TPA recipes for specific professions (real estate, legal, medical)

The core software — FreedomDesktop, the mesh networking, the trust model, the recipe engine — will remain free to use. You bring your own infrastructure. We provide the tools.

Transparency

As funding channels become active, we’ll document income and expenses here.

GitHub Sponsors

Best fit for open source: it’s native to GitHub and works well for recurring support.

Coming soon. We’ll add the direct sponsor link once the profile is live.

Project Repo

Why This Option

  • Low friction for developers already on GitHub
  • Sponsor button appears on the repository
  • Easy to communicate goals and tiers (when we’re ready)
